You’ve taken all your measurements and the unit has arrived. Now what? This is our guide to fitting your sliding wardrobe doors. Don’t worry, we appreciate that this process is quite technical. The guide attempts to explain every step in layman’s terms. We hope in doing this your installation will be swift and smooth.
Wall to Wall & Wall to End Panel Fitting
Step One: Fitting The Wall Liners
- You will want to start by ensuring there is no coving that will obstruct your wall liners.
Remember, these are going to run from the floor to the ceiling - Draw a line 650mm from the back wall so you have plenty of space for internal storage.
Use a spirit level so your line is straight and draw all the way down to the skirting board - If you want your liner to go to the floor you will, sadly, need to cut a section out of the skirting.
Our liners are 100mm deep x 18mm wide so we recommend cutting a 102mm section out - The liners will need to be cut to size (floor to ceiling) deducting 2mm
- Take the cut liner, place it just behind your pencil line, use a spirit level to make sure it is level and use a panel adhesive to stick it to the wall. Pack behind the liner if you need to.
(We do not recommend that you screw the liner to the wall as the screws will be visible). - If you are using your other wall liner repeat the above process
Step Two: Fitting The Bottom Liner
- It is best that your bottom liner is fitted onto your floorboards and not over carpet. We recommend carpeting up to the liner. The bottom liner is what your bottom track will eventually sit on. If your bottom track is sitting on a solid wood floor, for example, a bottom liner may not be needed
- Cut the bottom liner to size again, deducting 2mm. It is worth noting if your opening width is greater than 2800mm we will supply you the bottom liner in two halves. Don’t be alarmed and think you have received the wrong product
- Starting 50mm from the edge of the liner, drill holes at 600mm intervals (centre holes)
- Place your bottom liner on the floor, between your wall liner(s) and check that it is level. That last thing you want is your sliding doors rolling away. If you need to pack under the liner, as before, do so.
- Screw the liner to the floorboards and countersink screws, This will ensure the heads are flush with the surface
If you are completing a wall to wall installation you can move onto the next step. If not read more.
- Using your trusty spirit level, mark a line on the back wall to the width dimensions that you decided on using our Measuring Guide
- You will need to cut your end panel to size. After that, fix the panel to the wall, ceiling and floor using generic panel fixing blocks
- Your end panel, if you have one, will act as one of your wall liners. Continue to fit the other wall liner and bottom liner as instructed in earlier steps
Step Three: Fitting The Top Track
- The top track will be sent to you cut to size so you do not need to make adjustments like previous steps.
- Next you will want to drill 5mm holes (600mm centers)
- Place the front face of the top track 2mm from the front edge of the wall liner or end panel
- Use the prepared holes as a guide and mark their position. Put down the track and drill holes on the ceiling for rawl plugs to take the screws that will fix the tracking in place.
- Screw the track in. You don’t want to overtighten it
Step Four: Fitting The Bottom Track
The bottom track installation process varies from style to style. Below you will find advice on installing the bottom tracking for all of our styles of sliding wardrobe.
Concealed Fixing Bottom Track for Minimalist, Eclipse, Metro & Icon
- Mark 37mm from the front of the bottom liner and draw a line parallel with the front of the bottom liner for Minimalist range. For Metro, Eclipse and Icon your line will be 50mm out. This line will be the centre of the bottom track
- Screw the black locator nylon buttons provided along this line. They should adhere to 600mm centers
- The bottom track should now clip onto the buttons
Screw Fixing Bottom Track for Shaker & Linear
- Drill 5mm holes in the center of the track. These should have 600mm centers and start 50mm from the edge
- Mark 60mm from the front of the bottom liner and draw a line parallel with the front of the liner. Again, this will be the centre of your bottom track
- Place the bottom track on the bottom liner. As you position you should be able to see your pencil line through the holes you previously drilled
- Test to see if your Shaker or Linear doors are vertical using your trusty spirit level. If so, screw your bottom track into position via the drilled holes. Attach to the bottom liner using screws (unsupplied)
Screw Fixing Bottom Track for Monaco
- Drill 5mm holes in the center of the track. These should have 600mm centers and start 50mm from the edge
- Place the front edge of the bottom track 12mm from the front edge of the liner and mark
- Test to see if your Monaco doors are vertical using your spirit level. Screw your bottom track into position via the drilled holes. Attach to the bottom liner using screws (unsupplied)
No Liners
Place the bottom track on the floor. Put a door on the track and make sure it is attached to the top track. Using your spirit level, make sure the door is vertical. After this you are free to screw the bottom track into place.
Step Five: Installing The Doors
- Be careful in this process to not scratch any components. Tilt your doors and insert the top wheels into the top track
- Complete the same action for the bottom wheels
- You will then repeat this process for the other door(s)
- If you have a number of doors we advise alternating them on the tracks. For units with 3 doors, for example, the outer door will be placed on the back track and the middle door will be placed on the front track
- For units with 4 doors the exterior doors will go on the back track and the 2 middle doors will meet in the middle on the front track
Step Six: Adjusting The Doors
- For Eclipse, Metro, Icon, Shaker & Linear you can make height adjustments using a Philips screwdriver on the bottom wheel.
- For Monaco and Minimalist, you can make adjustments by lifting the side brush at the bottom of the doors and using an Allen key.
