Can I upgrade my Pax wardrobe system with one of your sliding door systems? This is a question we get asked a lot. The simple answer is Yes!
The Ikea Pax wardrobe interior system is a highly popular set-up due to its versatility and infinite storage combinations however clients are often looking for a fitted wardrobe look.
Being made-to-measure, our sliding wardrobe doors provide a beautiful, practical and stylish solution to create a wall-to-wall, and floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobe finish. They work well when planned and installed correctly alongside a Pax system.
HOW TO PLAN YOUR SLIDING WARDROBE DOORS FOR YOUR PAX INTERIOR.
Pax interiors are fully customisable units that come in two heights: 2010 and 2360mm
Available in 3 module widths: 500, 750 and 1000mm
And 2 depths: 350 and 580mm
They can be a great solution for a home as the units can be internally fitted with shelves, hanging, drawers, pull-outs etc tailored to you for a complete storage solution.
If you want to add our sliding doors to a Pax interior there are a few things to look out for and consider in your configurations to ensure a great fit!
IT’S ALL IN THE DRAWER PLACEMENT
If you are planning drawers in your PAX wardrobe, you will need to be mindful of where and how wide your drawers will be in relation to your total opening width and the number of doors. Sliding doors have an overlap so drawer widths need to be shorter in width than the size of your doors.
Below we have mocked up some examples of drawer placements to consider or rule out when planning your Pax interior combination.
2 Doors- Sliding Wardrobe Combination:
3 Doors- Sliding Door Configuration:
4 Door Combinations:
Four-door kits allow for more access to your interiors. However, you will need to be mindful of your door openings and the width of your drawers. The example below illustrates how your PAX wardrobe drawers are too wide for the door openings. Instead, you will need to consider leaving the wider units for hanging only and placing the drawers on the outside units. Alternatively, you could change the two central units to smaller widths and even out the interior space allowing the drawers to open.
Other Considerations:
If your installation type is not Wall to Wall but Wall to End Panel or End Panel to End Panel,
Due to the 580mm depth of your Pax interior, you will need to request an extra width end panel from our team. Our end panels are 650mm deep as standard, with a PAX system you will need a minimum depth of 670mm to allow for the door tracks so do get in touch with our team to request a custom fit. As manufacturers we’re able to create an end panel to suit, all you have to do is ask!
For any other tricky installations where you have already fitted your PAX interiors and need extra access. We are able to supply a triple track with some of our sliding wardrobe doors, namely Metro, Eclipse,Icon, Minimalist, Switch, Element, and Contour. All of which will give you access to 2/3 of the interior space. Please bear in mind that the triple tracks are deeper than the standard double tracks so this will also have to be taken into consideration when planning your wardrobe.
In any case we are always happy to assist and help with any queries you might have about planning your wardrobe using our doors in combination with the Ikea Pax interior System.
